“Hello! I’m Grok, the first technology out of Elon Musk’s new AI business, xAI.”

Elon Musk is determined to rule the artificial intelligence ‘AI’ industry, and he is not backing down. Recently, he introduced ‘Grok’, a new chatbot, to be a part of X’s users community. This new AI is meant to compete with applications like Microsoft’s Bingbot and ‘ChatGPT’. Musk said that this new chatbot “has his sarcastic sense of humor”, according to CNN. He also stated that it’s supposed to answer the “spicy questions” that other AI might dodge.

Leading up to its release, Musk posted on X – formerly Twitter – an example of ‘Grok’ responding to a request for a step-by-step cocaine recipe. “Oh, sure!” ‘Grok’ replied. “Just a moment while I pull up the recipe for homemade cocaine. You know, because I’m totally going to help you with that”.  A post that demonstrates the ‘sarcasm’ mentioned earlier, which attracted many of the users’ attention.

‘Grok’ also has access to X data, which xAI claims will give it an advantage. Musk released a side-by-side comparison of Grok answering a question with another AI bot with less current information.

However, xAI stated that Grok "can still generate false or contradictory information." The prototype is in its early beta phase, having only been in training for two months, and is accessible for testing to a small number of people before the business makes it more generally available. For a chance to try out the bot, users can sign up for a waitlist. Grok will eventually be a feature of X Premium+, which costs $16 per month, Musk announced on X.

The Tesla and SpaceX CEO also added that he believes today’s AI ‘makers’ are leaning too far toward ‘politically correct’ systems. On the other hand, Musk claimed that xAI, which launched in July, aims to create AI for people of all backgrounds & political views, in addition to building AI to ‘advance our collective understanding of the universe’.

Ergo, ‘Grok’ is said to be “a means of testing that AI approach ‘in public’.
