Universities complete their preparations to participate in the Climate Summit

    Public and private universities have completed their preparations to participate in the climate conference 27 scheduled to be held in November, to be hosted in Sharm el-Sheikh. A number of university presidents have emphasized the participation in projects and strategies, to be discussed and presented on the margins of the conference, as well as the discussion of recommendations and proposals in this regard.

    Dr. Mansour Hassan, President of Beni Suef University, stressed the full willingness to participate in the events to be held in the pavilion of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research on the margins of the COP27 Climate Summit to be hosted in Sharm el-Sheikh City.

    In the same vein, Dr. Mohamed Lutfi, President of the British University in Egypt, stressed that the University will participate in the conference and that there are approximately 200 students from the University will participate in the conference, stressing that the University has a number of research papers and strategies to be presented on the sidelines of the climate summit.

    Dr. Khaled Abdul Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Acting Minister of Health and Population, held a meeting with Dr. Jasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment, on Sunday to discuss arrangements and preparations for participation in the 27th session of the Climate Change Conference scheduled to be hosted in Sharm el-Sheikh in November 2022.
    During the meeting, the Ministers discussed the role of the Ministries of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Health and Population and the themes to be presented and discussed during the Conference. They reviewed the files on scientific research, innovation, science and technology, health, their relationship to climate change and the developments of incinerator projects, for the safe disposal of medical waste, as well as the criteria applied to health facilities to improve their efficiency; to adapt to climate changes.

    At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Khaled Abdul Ghaffar stressed the importance of ongoing and sustained cooperation and coordination between ministries (higher education, scientific research, health, population and environment) in all initiatives and programmes to host the 27th session of the Climate Conference, commending the efforts of the task force in these ministries. To ensure the success of the Conference and to demonstrate Egypt`s proper civilization before the world, he pointed out that this Conference is one of the international events of great interest to the Egyptian State, international organizations and various countries of the world.

    The Minister also reviewed a number of innovation project models implemented by Egyptian universities and will be presented at the conference, stressing the importance of science and scientists in achieving adaptation goals and reducing the impacts of climate change, in the framework of achieving sustainable development goals on climate action.

    The Minister referred to the outcomes of the higher education system in "Green Transformation", referring to the coordination between universities, research centres and institutes, and specialized quality councils of the Higher Council of Universities, to develop strategies to guide science, technology and innovation towards responding to climate change.
    .

    The Minister stressed the importance of familiarizing university youth with the issue of climate and the challenges of climate change and the importance of Egypt`s organizing this international conference, noting the preparation of a special session to integrate the dimensions of climate change into the curriculum of university education and the inclusion of the impact of climate change in university education activities, in particular medical education The impact of climate change on the health sector and diseases associated with rising temperatures environment ", noting the protocol of cooperation between the Ministries of Higher Education and the Environment to integrate environmental topics, including climate change in student graduation projects and implementation of environmental activities at universities, and support for students` environmental initiatives and theses.

    The Matrouh Information Centre held a symposium entitled "Information and awareness of environmental issues", in the camp of Helwan University, with the participation of a group of students for Egypt from 21 faculties of the University, as well as professors, officials and administrators of the University, in preparation for the climate conference.
