French President Emmanuel Macron witnessed the launch of the Egypt-France Higher Education and Scientific Research Conference on Monday evening at Cairo University, marking a historic moment as he became the second French president to visit the prestigious institution. The first was Jacques Chirac, who delivered a speech there in April 1996 during the inauguration of the French-funded Qasr Al-Ainy French Hospital.

President Macron’s visit to Egypt, which began on Sunday, spans three days and includes discussions on recent developments in Gaza and the deepening of bilateral relations across various sectors. The visit is widely seen as a testament to the strengthening strategic partnership between Egypt and France.

Accompanied by Egypt`s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Ayman Ashour, and French Minister for Higher Education and Research, Philippe Baptiste, Macron participated in the opening of the educational forum. The event brought together presidents of universities, senior educational officials, and heads of research centers and institutes from both countries. It will also host representatives from several French companies operating in Egypt, showcasing the robust cooperation in the academic and industrial spheres.

Speaking during the event, President Macron expressed his appreciation, stating, “I express my gratitude to everyone contributing to the enhancement of university cooperation between Egypt and France.” He emphasized Egypt’s pivotal role in higher education, saying, “Egypt is at the forefront of many academic programs, and we are proud of our partnership with Egypt.” The French president also noted a growing academic exchange between the two nations, highlighting “an increase in the number of Egyptian students enrolling in French universities.”

From the Egyptian side, Minister Ayman Ashour lauded the conference as a landmark in the evolving educational relationship between Egypt and France. He pointed out that the forum aims to advance modern academic disciplines, including technological sciences and interdisciplinary programs, which are essential for future innovation and development.

The Egypt-France Higher Education and Scientific Research Conference signals a shared commitment to educational excellence, cross-cultural exchange, and collaborative innovation—further solidifying the long-standing friendship between the two nations.
