On November 8, Cairo University participated in the Cop27 Climate Conference under the direction of Dr. El-Khosht, the university president, with an action plan to combat climate change.
A simulated model for the project "Separation and biological transformation of agricultural waste and agricultural industries to make products of economic value" was presented, and the winner was chosen among the top 10 ideas in the Public Universities Forum to combat climate change.

The project offers technological solutions for the safe use of organic waste of agricultural origin to produce products of high economic value through procedures that do not produce any environmental harm during the stages of production and operation, helping to lessen the hazardous emissions that come from improper disposal by burning these wastes.

During the conference, the university hosts a workshop on its role in addressing climate change during the conference and provides a thorough presentation of the results of applied projects and scientific research related to climate change issues that were presented at the public universities forum to address climate change.

It is important to note that Cairo University has a plan to become a fourth generation university by 2021-2025 with an emphasis on the environmental factor;In order to strengthen the university`s participation in numerous development axes, the university`s research and instructional plans must be integrated with Egypt`s 2030 strategic vision and the UN`s sustainable development objectives.

Cairo University was ranked 239th in the field of environmental impact within the QS Sustainability classification for 2022, and the university was ranked 242 globally in the “UI Green Metric” global ranking of green universities that are environmentally friendly
