Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, reviews a report made by Dr. Hussein Darwish, acting head of the National Research Center, on the role of the center in facing climate changes and their various effects, within the framework of the state`s keenness to conduct studies, research, and tests to reduce the effects of climate change on the environment.
The report indicated that the National Research Center published more than 200 research published in specialized scientific journals, about 30 research projects, and more than 15 scientific theses and patents, as well as the organization and participation of the Center in many conferences and workshops.
The report clarified the contribution of the National Research Center to the issue of climate change in the field of energy, in line with the objectives of the national strategic plan for climate change in Egypt until the year 2050, in addition to allocating the center to an appeal within its internal projects on issues of climate change and its various effects. .

The report stated that the National Research Center conducted several studies to reduce energy consumption, including using solar energy in the manufacture of solar dryers to dry all agricultural crops and reduce pollutants emitted by fossil fuels, cooling, heating, and ventilation of poultry houses, heating greenhouses and fish farms using solar energy, using pumping systems Water for irrigation in desert areas as an alternative to diesel fuel that pollutes the air.
The report pointed to the most important research and applied projects in which the National Research Center contributes to confronting climate changes and maximizing the use of new and renewable energy, including: the synthesis and characterization of electrical catalysts for the production of hydrogen used in fuel cells, a feasibility study for the production of an electric car powered by fuel cells, and the development of solar thermal complexes with High optical selectivity of nanoscale surface formations for industrial-scale production, preparation of an innovative electrode for electrolysis of water for solar hydrogen production, development of spectral selective Nano-alumina coating layers to maximize the utilization of solar heating for water desalination purposes, production of environmentally friendly biofuels from vegetable oils as an alternative For fossil fuels, evaluating the performance of diesel machines and combustion emissions using biodiesel as well as mixing it with different types of petroleum fuels, producing a solar cell from organic materials, producing a low-cost solar cell from solid films of nanometric silicon membranes. .

The report noted the success of the center’s researchers in producing environmentally friendly electric energy through hydrogen-based fuel cell technology as a clean fuel and its applications in transportation, power plants, and portable devices, adding that the center’s researchers converted the organic part of the solid waste into hydrogen gas or methane in addition to an intermediate product (agricultural fertilizer) by combining fermentation and electrolysis.
