The Minister of Higher Education inaugurates the Cairo University exhibition at the Green Innovation Pavilion within the activities of COP 27

    Cairo University holds a symposium to review its 2021-2025 strategy across 8 main axes to reduce the effects of climate change.
    The university’s plan is based on paying attention to the environmental dimension with research projects, international cooperation agreements and protocols, academic courses, initiatives and competitions for professors and students.
    Under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Mohamed Othman Elkhosht, President of Cairo University, the university participated in the Green Innovation Pavilion, which is held on the sidelines of the COP27 Climate Summit in the Green Zone and is organized by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. Egypt’s Vision 2030, which includes attention to all axes of sustainable development, foremost of which is facing the climatic effects of climate change.
    Dr. Mohamed Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, inaugurated the Cairo University exhibition in the Green Innovation Pavilion within the activities of the Climate Summit in Sharm El-Sheikh. .

    Prof. Elkhosht, President of the University, stated that Cairo University’s strategy to transform into fourth-generation universities focused on the environment axis, as it is a core axis in the five-year plan, consolidating the university’s role in many development axes, stressing the keenness of the university’s educational and research plan in line with Egypt’s strategic vision. 2030 and the sustainable development goals of the United Nations, and therefore it was natural for the university’s indicators to advance in the international classifications related to the environmental dimension, the most important of which is the classification of Cairo University in the 239th place in the field of environmental impact within the QS Sustainability classification for 2022, and the university also ranked 242 globally in the classification The global “UI Green Metric” for green universities.

    In the symposium devoted to Cairo University in the forum, Dr. Mohamed Sami Abdel Sadiq, Vice President of Cairo University for Community Service and Environmental Development, presented a presentation in which he reviewed Cairo University’s strategic plan (2021-2025) and its focus on the environmental dimension through 8 main axes within its executive plan to reduce the effects of Climate changes: research projects, agreements and cooperation protocols, academic courses, the university’s cultural structure, university research centers, research initiatives and competitions for professors and students, simulation models, awards and advanced centers for the university in the global environmental ranking, and the establishment of an office for development and environmental sustainability, as the Vice President of the University reviewed The university`s efforts through a number of activities and events in limiting and adapting to climate change. .

    Dr. Abdullah Sobhi, Professor at the Faculty of Agriculture, gave a detailed explanation about the Cairo University project participating in the Green Innovation Pavilion, which is the “Separation and Biotransformation of Agricultural Waste and Agricultural Industries to Produce Products of Economic Value” where the project provides technological solutions for the safe use of organic waste of agricultural origin to produce Products of high economic value through technologies that do not cause any environmental damage during the production and operation stages, which contributes to reducing harmful emissions as a result of unsafe disposal by direct burning of these wastes.

    A film entitled "The Role of Cairo University in Limiting and Adapting to Climate Change" was also shown, which reviewed facts about Cairo University and its position in international rankings and its distinguished study programs in environmental sciences, and its agreements with major universities and international bodies. The film also highlighted Cairo University`s efforts in the file of changes. Most notably: developing a strategy focusing on the ecosystem, creating an office for development and environmental sustainability, issuing the first guide to sustainable life for university students, launching a call to submit applied research projects to limit and adapting to climate changes, establishing a college for new and renewable energy (sustainable energy), and financing green research projects. It also includes developing university programs in environmental sciences, preparing a simulation model for the COP 27 climate conference, and organizing awareness seminars, workshops and lectures for students, staff and faculty members. .
