Minister of Health participates in session “Global Youth Forum on Health and Climate Change”

    Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Health and Population, participated in a discussion session of the “Global Youth Forum on Health and Climate Change”, to learn about the aspirations and ambitions of young people in this field, as part of the activities of the United Nations Climate Conference (COP27), which Egypt is hosting from 6 to 6 November 18 in Sharm El Sheikh.

    The session was held in the presence of Dr. Maria Neira, Director of Public Health and Environment at the World Health Organization, Dr. Naima Al Qasir, representative of the World Health Organization in Egypt, and a number of officials, youth and those interested in health and climate issues.

    Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, said that the minister stressed the importance of believing in the power of youth, their passion and their willingness to work towards a healthier world for all, calling for support for the meaningful participation of youth in climate action, and the inclusion of health goals within all policies taken on climate change.

    Abdul Ghaffar added that the minister also stressed the importance of involving young people in mechanisms to highlight the damage caused by climate change and ways to adapt to it, to protect societies, especially groups of women, children, the elderly, the sick and the unable in light of the economic conditions that many countries are going through.

    Abdel Ghaffar said that the minister pointed out that health systems are affected by many factors and determinants, especially environmental, explaining that climate change affects the health and well-being of people around the world, which necessitates the need to include health and take it into account in the decisions taken in light of the continued presence of the greatest health threat in the twenty-first century which is climate change.
    .

    Abdel Ghaffar added that the minister noted the need to recognize the damage caused by human activities that affect climate change, and the threats it poses to everyone`s health, stressing the need to accelerate the pace of work and benefit from the joint health benefits of strategies to confront the impacts of climate change. .
