On the sidelines of COP27: The Minister of Education Participates in a Ministerial Session Entitled "Demanding Youth for Good Climate Education"

    Dr. Reda Hegazy, Minister of Education, participated in a ministerial session entitled "Young people`s demand for good climate education", on the sidelines of COP 27.
    The session highlighted the promotion of dialogue between youth and policy makers to encourage countries to ensure quality, climate change education, and enhance cooperation between the Ministries of Education, Technical Education and the Environment in raising awareness of the importance of the issue of climate change.
    Dr. Reda Hegazy, Minister of Education, in his speech, expressed his happiness to participate in this important event that aims to advocate for the preservation of the environment for the sake of future generations.

    The minister said that the ministry has integrated the concepts of environmental and sustainable development into the educational curricula, where the concepts of environment and climate, the causes of problems and their effects on the environment, health and people, and the proposed solutions to avoid those risks are explained.
    He added that the ministry has organized a number of art competitions dealing with climate issues for school students to motivate them to participate in the environment and to have a sense of responsibility towards environmental issues, starting with collective awareness for all students, as well as conducting cultural seminars to educate students.

    The minister indicated the ministry`s interest in the issue of sustainable development, through the establishment of a new department in the ministry and educational directorates under the name "Sustainable Development Department", as well as designing a training package for teachers on environmental concepts, key climate issues and biodiversity, in addition to developing teachers` skills in building a range of activities. Accompanying the curricular topics they teach to provide students with positive attitudes towards environmental issues and its protection.
    The minister announced the launch of the competition for the best environmentally friendly school, which will be selected according to criteria, the most important of which are green spaces, electricity and water conservation, waste separation and its reliance on renewable energy.
    At the conclusion of his speech, Dr. Reda Hegazy, Minister of Education and Technical Education, invited the participants to visit the art gallery located in the pavilion of the Ministry of Education, in the Green Zone, where artworks of students enrolled in public schools are displayed, which reflect the hopes and dreams of children to take action to address the climate crisis, under the slogan "A message from the children of Egypt to the world."
