Minister of Higher Education participates in launching the initiative to Protect Heritage Sites and Museums from Climate Change Damage

    Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research participated in the launch of the Fund for the Protection of Heritage Sites and Museums from Climate Change Damage, in the presence of Dr. Salim Bin Malik, Director General of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), Dr. Mostafa Waziry Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, and Dr. Mohamed Bayoumi, Assistant Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), on the sidelines of Egypt`s hosting of the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27).
    In his speech, the Minister of Higher Education clarified that the Egyptian government is committed to managing the climate change file with the utmost interest and global commitment, to support one of the issues that concern the whole world, noting that the government is working to integrate the climate change file in all sectors of Egypt, and support the achievement of sustainable development goals, and the objectives of Egypt’s Vision 2030.
    .

    Dr. Ashour calls on all Egyptian universities to work on studying the effects of climate change on various sectors, and to pay great attention to the extent of the impact of climate change on the monuments, explaining that studies confirm that the risk of climate change on the Egyptian monuments will be great, if we do not speed up taking protection and prevention measures. .

    The Minister valued the initiative of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), to preserve antiquities in countries, by registering archaeological areas in member states, which reached 260 sites in 33 member states, including 7 Egyptian archaeological sites, where the organization works to support efforts to preserve monuments.
