Engineer Tariq al-Mulla, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, stressed the importance of providing the necessary funding for energy transformation projects and the need for cooperation between partners in this field, creating partnerships to overcome challenges to climate change, applying the latest technology and developing policies to preserve the environment and accelerate decarbonization processes, and that significant success has been achieved in recent years in this area, however there is much remaining to be done over the coming period. .

This announcement was made at the second session, entitled "Accelerating the implementation of the decarbonization initiative", was part of day of decarbonization session, which began this morning at the United Nations Climate Summit COP27 currently being held in Sharm el-Sheikh, With the participation of Natasha Pelidis, Minister of Energy, Trade and Industry of Cyprus, Osama Mubaraz, Secretary-General of the Eastern Mediterranean Gas Forum, and Claudio DeScalze, President of the Italian company Eni, Pratima Rangaranjan, President of the Petroleum and Gas Climate Initiative (Climate Investment), and Ricardo Politi, Vice President of Infrastructure at the World Bank, moderated the session by Energy Strategy Officer Atul Ariya. .

" The decarbonization file comes as a priority on the agenda of the Eastern Mediterranean Gas Forum, which adopts natural gas as a clean transition fuel, and that the Forum has an important role to play in energy solutions through its entity, which includes productive, consumer and energy transport countries. That significant progress has been made in the Forum and has become an entity that supports dialogue among the energy industry, offers initiatives, has sessions and meetings and plays an influential role, Two years ago at the outset, we were keen for the Forum to emerge as an ideal model for cooperation among the countries of the Eastern Mediterranean region, and that dialogue among all is important, especially with the Forum Advisory Committee, which was formed to cooperate with all governments, the private sector, companies, banks and organizations. All of the Forum`s meetings were supported, endorsed and attended by the European Union, hence strengthened the initiative to have natural gas as a transition fuel in the energy transition phase. Now, the conferences, dialogue here and what we do on the ground undoubtedly underscore the seriousness with which we work both to achieve energy transformation and to reduce emissions on the ground. It also emphasizes our readiness to take influential steps in parallel with the Climate Summit, which is the Summit for the Implementation of Pledges and to take steps that our planet needs through the role of Governments, the right and stimulating policies and actions, and most importantly the provision of appropriate and rapid funding."
