Two very important events align this year with one thing in common, raising awareness for climate change. While Egypt was preparing to host COP27 which takes place from the 6th of November till the 18th, the Cairo International Film Festival, and the U.S Embassy, in respect to their partnership were integrating environmental awareness into the film industry.
The partnership between CIFF and the U.S Embassy first started in 2016, aiming to bring Egyptian and American screenwriters, directors, and film experts to share their ideas, work and collaborate. Three documentaries on the impact of climate change on communities will be screened, followed by a panel discussion on eco-friendly filmmaking.
Holly Morris, an award-winning director, writer, and producer will participate in the panel discussion alongside Michael Kovnat, a former executive producer with National Geographic. Their participation comes as part of the partnership with both, Film independent, a non-governmental organization that supports independent filmmakers, and the U.S Embassy.
.
Lauren Lovelace, the minister counselor for public affairs at the U.S Embassy says “We realize that CIFF happens while Egypt hosts the United Nations Climate Conference in Sharm El Sheikh. We are pleased to have that connection between all sponsorships of CIFF.” .
