World Cup 2022 RECAP: Spain set benchmark as Belgium struggle and Germany suffer defeat
close

Day four of the World Cup delivered yet another shock, with Japan coming from behind to beat Germany.
Germany named a strong side to face Japan which included names such as Jamal Musiala, Kai Havertz and Thomas Muller. They led at half-time, but goals from substitutes Ritsu Doan and Takuma Asano turned the game on its head.
Earlier, Croatia, who were runners-up at the 2018 World Cup, were held to a 0-0 draw by Morocco in their Group F opener in Wednesday`s opening match. Both sides spurned chances to bag all three points in a game where Bayern Munich wing-back Noussair Mazraoui was stretchered off.
Spain got their campaign underway with a thrashing of Costa Rica, scoring seven goals to lay down a marker to their rivals for the World Cup.
Belgium`s `Golden Generation` rounded off the day`s action with a win over Canada, though the minnows would be forgiven for feeling like they deserved at least a draw as Robert Martinez`s men struggled.
