Cairo University participates in Cairo ICT 2022

    Cairo University is participating in the activities of the Cairo International Conference and Exhibition for Communications and Information Technology, Cairo ICT 2022, during the period from 27 to 30 November, under the auspices of Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and within the framework of the university`s keenness to keep pace with modern technology and move towards digital transformation and improve the performance of electronic services at the university.
    Cairo University President Prof. Dr. Mohamed Othman Elkhosht said that the university’s participation in the Cairo International Exhibition for Communication and Information Technology “Cairo ICT” includes several events, most notably a prototype for an integrated cloud-based platform for pest control, salinity and effective irrigation in precision cultivation of olives, in addition to 3 research projects funded by a number of funding agencies affiliated with the Ministry of Higher Education and the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, 4 master`s and doctoral theses, and 3 students’ graduation projects.
    The President of Cairo University stated that the university participates in the university innovation competition, which is held within the activities of the exhibition, with 4 students’ projects to compete for prizes that help them develop the next step in their projects and applicable research ideas, encouraging young people to engage in scientific research, innovation, and communicating new ideas to investors in order to adopt the best ideas presented. Three teams of university students participate in the general information competition on cybersecurity, in addition to the participation of the Cairo University Business Incubator in the exhibition to talk with young entrepreneurs and startups.

    Dr. Al-Khosht added that the students’ graduation projects participating in the Cairo ICT 2022 are a project for planning and monitoring the crew and schedule for the Egyptian Railways, a project for predicting advertisements with the Covid 19 protein using artificial intelligence, and an application for the deaf and dumb on smart phones, pointing out that The master`s and doctoral theses that the university is participating in the exhibition address the applications of artificial intelligence in the field of health, early prediction of diseases and respiratory infections, the use of artificial intelligence in the field of e-learning, and modern communication systems using technologies such as underwater communication and communication using quantum theory.
    For his part, Dr. Mohammad Mohsen Al-Attar, Vice President of the University for Graduate Studies and Research, said that Dr. Al-Khosht directed all colleges and research centers at the university to increase their effective role in supporting and serving the community, providing strategic advice, expanding community work, and directing all its scientific, study and research activities in applied projects that emphasize the university`s pioneering role in supporting and serving the local community, investing scientific research in comprehensive development, participating in the state`s national projects, promoting innovative thinking for young people and maximizing their participation in local and international exhibitions and competitions.

    Dr. Ahmed Khattab, coordinator of the Cairo University pavilion at the exhibition and the main researcher of the integrated cloud-based platform project for pest control, salinity and effective irrigation in precision cultivation of olives, explained that the participating project is an important step in the Egyptian-Spanish strategic plan to enable and localize the communications and information technology industry to support smart agriculture and increase productivity, The olive crop, as Egypt and Spain are the two largest countries in the production and processing of olives and its derivatives, pointing out that the prototype of the platform is an output of a research project funded by the Egyptian-Spanish Program for Innovation in Information Technology of the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA).
    It is worth noting that Cairo International Telecommunications and Information Technology Exhibition "Cairo ICT" is one of the oldest and most important technology forums in the Middle East and Africa region. And applied outputs from institutions of higher education and scientific research for the community of workers in the field of information and communication technology and investors, holding a number of specialized seminars, and implementing some events for university students and developers to benefit from them on the ground.
