Dr Elkhosht Receives Representative of UN Office in Middle East And North Africa

    Dr. Mohamed Othman Elkhosht, President of Cairo University, received, in his office, Ms. Christina Albertine, representative of the United Nations Regional Office on Drugs and Crime for the Middle East and North Africa, in order to exchange insights on drug and crime issues, and within the framework of the global initiative for education and youth empowerment in the field of combating corruption “Grace Initiative”. It is an initiative adopted by the United Nations Office for Combating Crime and Drugs, and it is being implemented within Egyptian universities in cooperation with the Administrative Control Authority and under the guidance of the Egyptian political leadership. .

    Dr. El-Khosht and Ms. Christina Albertine inaugurated a student exhibition that included works of art that express the state’s efforts to combat corruption, in the presence of Dr. Mahmoud Al-Saeed, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Political Science and Coordinator of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the Grace Initiative, and Dr. Mamdouh Ismail, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Political Science for Affairs. Community service and environmental development, and Dr. Rasha Jamal, supervisor of the University`s International Relations Office.
    During the meeting, Dr. Mohamed Othman Elkhosht reviewed the experience and efforts of Cairo University in implementing the national anti-corruption strategy by implementing many reform and awareness measures within the university, including signing a cooperation protocol with the Administrative Control Authority to establish an academic master`s program in governance and anti-corruption, indicating that Cairo University is one of the first Egyptian universities and institutions to implement financial inclusion, and it has prepared an ethical charter for university professions to govern professional rules for faculty members and workers, in addition to a student code of ethics in cooperation with the Administrative Control Authority, and the university has taken strong measures against any violations to combat corruption within the university, as well Students study courses related to societal issues within the university`s plan to implement the United Nations development goals.

    The President of Cairo University indicated that the university has designated a headquarters for the Fund for Combating and Treating Addiction and Abuse of the Ministry of Social Solidarity, “The Volunteer House,” to educate students about ways to prevent drug abuse, as well as respond to all inquiries related to the harms of drug abuse, adding that the university recently established a center for psychological support and rebuilding The self, to address all societal and psychological problems facing young people, within the framework of the enlightening role of the university in formulating and rebuilding the Egyptian mind.
    For her part, Mrs. Christina Albertin expressed her pleasure in cooperating and working with Egyptian universities, especially Cairo University and its students, and reviewed the role and path of the office`s work through working with governmental and non-governmental agencies, which is represented in addressing the threats resulting from crime, addressing corruption and its negative impact on societies, and strengthening Preventing crime, building effective criminal justice systems, and combating terrorism, stressing that the office`s work at the present time focuses more on the preventive side than on the support side, with the aim of reaching young people and preventing them from falling as victims of any kind of crime.
    Ms. Christina Albertin also suggested distributing reports and publications issued by the United Nations Regional Office on Drugs and Crime for the Middle East and North Africa to Cairo University students to benefit from them and learn about the office`s vision in the field of crime prevention, justice, improvement of the rule of law, and the implementation of sustainable development goals.
