The Public Opinion Research Center at the Faculty of Mass Communication, Cairo University, under the auspices of Dr. Mohamed Othman Elkhosht, President of the University, and the supervision of Dr. Hanan Gunaid, Dean of the Faculty of Mass Communication, organized a "webinar" in the faculty`s conference hall, to announce the results of an opinion poll on the Egyptian media`s coverage of the COP27 Climate Summit, in the presence of Faculty professors and chief editors of a number of governmental and private newspapers and websites.
Dr. Elkhosht explained that the Public Opinion Research Center conducted an opinion poll aimed at monitoring the role of the Egyptian media in providing the Egyptian public with information and news about the COP27, referring to the results revealed by the poll, most notably: the multiplicity and diversity of issues that the respondents were keen to follow up on during the conference, the issue of water scarcity and drought came first, then the issue of green policy, then the issue of financing that rich countries will provide to poor countries in order to face the effects of climate change, then renewable energy and energy transfer.

The President of Cairo University added that the survey showed a high evaluation of the respondents for Egypt`s efforts in organizing the COP27 Climate Summit, as most of the sample`s evaluations ranged between excellent and very good, pointing out that the survey monitored the multiplicity and diversity of the media through which the respondents followed the COP27. At the forefront of these means were social network sites, which ranked first with a rate of 84.3%, followed by electronic news sites in second place, then television channels, then the websites of official institutions, then radio stations and newspapers.
For her part, Dr. Hanan Gunaid, Dean of the Faculty of Mass Communication, said that the results of the opinion poll showed that the social network site, Facebook came as the most reliable site for respondents to obtain information and news about the Climate Summit, and the Presidency page on social network sites came first to the ranking of official institutions websites, Masrawy website at the forefront of news websites, dmc channel ranked first among TV channels, Nogoum FM radio station ranked first among radio stations, Youm7 newspaper website ranked first among private newspapers, while Al-Ahram newspaper topped the list of the most popular national newspapers the Egyptian public follow the news of the Climate Summit.

Dr. Sahar Mustafa, Director of the Public Opinion Research Center, explained that the opinion poll was applied to a sample of 1,500 media audiences, whose ages ranged from 15 years and over, from November 17 to December 19, 2022.
Dr. Sahar Mostafa indicated that the Opinion Research Center was established in 1982 as a scientific, research, training and advisory unit, with the aim of conducting scientific studies and research on political, economic and social issues related to Egyptian society, measuring public opinion trends towards current vital issues, and exchanging scientific opinions through holding conferences. Seminars and specialized workshops, and the development of job skills for research cadres in the field of public opinion.
