Egypt launches the national strategy for higher education and scientific research

Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Mohamed Ayman Ashour, launched the national strategy for higher education and scientific research on Tuesday, in the presence of Prime Minister (PM) Mostafa Madbouli in a hotel in Cairo.
The launching was attended by Advisor to the President on Health and Prevention Affairs, Mohamed Awad Tag El Din, and ministers of Planning and Economic Development, health and population, communications and information technology, Finance, Education, Youth and Sports, Agriculture, Manpower, and British Ambassador Gareth Bayley.
During the ceremony, Ashour presented the three main axis for the strategy, which are (1) sustainable development – according to Egypt’s 2030 vision -, (2) shifting to fourth generation universities to combat global changes and (3) the relation between higher education, scientific research and the overall national development plan.

Additionally, he highlighted the 7 fundamental principles shaping the strategic pathway, which are (Integration, interdisciplinary, communication, active participation, sustainability, international reference, innovation and entrepreneurship), emphasizing that the aforementioned principles support the transformation of educational institutions into innovative institutions contributing to the constitution of special scientific cadres and establishing a healthy , innovative environment to support the development of educational institutions.
For her part, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Hala El Saeed, stated that Egypt is determined to invest in its human capital in order to keep up with the current global shifts, pointing out to the establishing of technological universities, partnering with international institutions to provide double degrees and introducing Distinguished study programs that are developed according to the variables of the fourth industrial revolution
Moreover, British Ambassador Gareth Bayley praised the new strategy and the Egyptian-British bilateral cooperation, especially in the educational field, citing the Newton Education Program as an example.

several cooperation protocols have been signed during the launching, including a protocol for cooperation between partners from higher education institutions and industrial institutions as the nucleus of the Northern Territory Alliance ( Alexandria University, Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport, Matrouh University, Alamein International University, he City of Scientific Research and Technological Applications, Alexandria Mineral Oils Company (AMOC), Abu Qir Fertilizer Company, The Board of Trustees of the New Burj Al Arab, Alexandria Business Association) to prepare new generations capable of assuming responsibility according to the latest modern education methods. .
