Ahmed Yasser, a successful Zamalek Club Sports and Egypt National team basketball player at the age of 22, is interviewed by EMCCU TODAY.

When did you start your basketball career?

    -                     Since I was a kid, my dad has been practicing basketball for the Zamalek Sports Club and the Egypt national team. As a result, Basketball has always been a significant part of our family life, and we used to go see him practice. When I was five years old, I used to play at the Zamalek Junior Academy. I grew up appreciating it so much that I pursued a career in it.

What goals do you have for yourself and basketball in the upcoming years?

     -                     It would be an enormous honor for me to compete in the Olympics, particularly in the position of the top athlete in my sport, so I hope I get the chance.

     Who’s Your Role Model?

    -                      My Dad

    .

Could you describe a specific moment or accomplishment in your career?

     -                     One memorable moment I will never forget is when my team and I won the 2021 African Championship. It was an incredible feeling to win the first championship ever made in the name of Zamalek Sports Club and all the players, so it was very significant. It also allowed us to participate in the Club World Cup as the first Egyptian club to compete in the competition.

What might improve Egypt`s basketball talent?

     -                     Because of the various ways that players play in Egypt, there should be more camps, higher-ranking coaches, and retired players who can share their experiences with the team. This will inspire the players to play more if they know that everyone is watching them and is interested in them.

How will you go about getting ready for a big game?

     -                     Although everyone has various preferences, I personally like to get up early and study the competitors` past matches to assess my opponent`s strengths and weaknesses as well as the way the player I am observing plays. Preparing for the game, I prefer to listen to music to decompress.
