Dr. AymanAshour, Minister of higher education and scientific research, reviewed a report on the ranking of Egyptian universities in the British Times Higher Education ranking of international higher education institutions for the year 2023.
The report pointed to the inclusion of 26 Egyptian universities in the rating, out of 1799 universities included in the rating from 104 countries worldwide, where Aswan University topped the list of Egyptian universities, and came in the ranking of (401 – 500), followed by Damietta and Kafr el-Sheikh universities Ranked from (501 – 600).
The report pointed out that 4 Egyptian universities received a ranking of (601 – 800), namely (Banha, Fayoum, Mansoura, and Minya), and 9 Egyptian universities received a ranking of (801 – 1000), namely (Al-Azhar, Alexandria, the American University in Egypt, BeniSuef, Cairo, Suez Canal, Tanta, Zagazig, and Zewail City for science and technology).
The report indicated that 6 Egyptian universities received the ranking from (1001 – 1200), namely (Ain Shams, Assiut, Menoufia, port said, Sohag, and South Valley), and 4 Egyptian universities received the ranking (1201 - 1500), which is (the Arab Academy for science, technology and maritime transport, the British university in Egypt, the German university in Cairo, and Helwan University).

Dr. Adel Abdul Ghaffar, media advisor and spokesperson for the ministry, said that this rating is based on 5 key performance indicators: Teaching (Learning Environment); Research (Volume, income and reputation); citations (research impact); international outlook (staff, students and research); and industry income (knowledge transfer). It is based on 13 sub – indicators selected to provide the most comprehensive and balanced comparisons, and the classification requires that the university be a research educational institution, and that it has published 1000 research papers in indexed journals globally during the period 2017-2021 with a minimum of 150 research papers per year. .
