In a meeting of Cairo University`s Council,
Prof Mohamed Sami Abdel-Sadek has announced the launch of the "Cairo University Artificial Intelligence Strategy", which is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals and Egypt`s Vision 2030.
University President: Approval has been granted to initiate procedures for establishing several university-affiliated companies, including the Cairo University Company for Intellectual Property Management, and companies that market consulting, research, and innovation services in the fields of medicine, engineering, and pharmaceuticals.
Prof Mohamed Sami Abdel-Sadek has directed that the university’s comprehensive guide to its research facilities and laboratories be made available to facilitate the investment in these resources by researchers from within and outside the university.
The University Council has approved the formation of an executive committee to coordinate and integrate Cairo University`s printing facilities. The committee aims to maximise investments, improve efficiency, and enhance production capacities.
Prof Mohamed Sami Abdel-Sadek: A 100% increase in social support funding for regular students has been approved as partial assistance with tuition fees. Additionally, non-resident students will be permitted to stay in university housing during exam periods, with payment for services, without affecting the priority of original eligible residents.
The University Council reviewed Cairo University`s activities under the "New Beginning for Human Development" initiative, launched by the President of the Republic of Egypt. The Council also examined the outcomes of comprehensive development convoys organised by the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector, dispatched to villages in Giza Governorate as part of the initiative`s implementation.
The Council approved the report of Cairo University’s Committee on the Ethics of Animal Care and Use in Education and Scientific Research in response to videos attributed to the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.
Additionally, discussions were held regarding arrangements for participation in the 12th session of the World Urban Forum Urban Expo, which will be held at the Egypt International Exhibition Centre in Cairo from November 4 to 8, 2024, in collaboration with the United Nations Human Settlements Programme.
Approval was also granted for amendments to specific academic regulations and memorandums of understanding between the faculties of Pharmacy, Arts, Economics and Political Science, Commerce, and Medicine and universities and research centres in Japan, the Netherlands, New Zealand, China, Russia, and Poland.
Cairo University’s Council held its monthly meeting, chaired by Prof Mohamed Sami Abdel-Sadek, in the Ahmed Lotfy El-Sayed Hall, with the attendance of the university vice presidents, faculty deans, and the university secretary-general, to discuss various topics related to the educational, research, and service processes.
At the beginning of the meeting, the University Council congratulated Prof Mohamed Sami Abdel-Sadek on the trust placed in him by the political leadership and the issuance of Presidential Decree No 436 of 2024, appointing him as President of Cairo University for a four-year term.
The university president announced the launch of the "Cairo University Artificial Intelligence Strategy" aimed at achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and Egypt’s Vision 2030. The Council approved the formation of a high-level committee to oversee the implementation of this strategy across the university`s faculties and institutes, as well as the establishment of an AI unit within each faculty or institute to carry out the strategy’s key initiatives.
The Council approved the allocation of Lecture Hall Building (1) at the international branch of Cairo University in the 6th of October City to initiate studies at Cairo University’s non-profit branch, set to begin in the 2025/2026 academic year after completing the necessary procedures.
The Council also approved the formation of an executive committee to enhance coordination and integration among the university’s printing facilities, which include Cairo University’s Printing and Publishing Centre and the Blended Education Printing House, to improve efficiency and production capacity. The committee was instructed to activate Cairo University’s Publishing and Distribution House.
Additionally, the Council reviewed the university`s activities under the "New Beginning for Human Development" initiative launched by the President of the Republic. This included examining the results of the comprehensive development convoys dispatched by the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector to villages in Giza Governorate as part of the initiative’s implementation. These convoys covered various fields, including human medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, agriculture, and public awareness.
The Council also approved doubling social support funding for regular students as partial assistance with tuition fees. Additionally, it agreed to allow non-resident male and female students to stay in university dormitories during exam periods, given the distance between their residences and their exam locations at the faculties. This arrangement will be made without impacting the housing priority of originally eligible resident students.
The Council approved arrangements for participation in the 12th World Urban Forum Urban Expo session, scheduled for November 4–8, 2024, at the Egypt International Exhibition Centre in Cairo, in collaboration with the United Nations Human Settlements Programme. The Council also agreed to pay the required participation fees to the New Urban Communities Authority.
Moreover, Cairo University’s Council approved the conclusions reached by the Cairo University Committee on the Ethics of Animal Care and Use in Education and Scientific Research in response to videos attributed to the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.
Furthermore, the Council approved the initiation of procedures for establishing several university-affiliated companies, including the Cairo University Company for Intellectual Property Management and companies for marketing consulting, research, and innovation services in medicine, engineering, and pharmaceuticals. Additionally, they approved the establishment of the Cairo University Company for Artificial Intelligence Applications and Safety and the Kasr Al-Ainy Company for Hospital and Medical Facility Management.
