Mass Communication Hosts Seminar on "Media & Women`s Sports"

    The Faculty of Mass Communication at Cairo University organized a seminar entitled "Media and Women`s Sports," under the auspices of Professor Mohamed Sami Abdel-Sadek and Professor Thuraya Ahmed El-Badawy, Dean of the Faculty. The seminar was attended by Professor Hanaa Farouk, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, and Dr. Zahraa Rashad, Lecturer in the Journalism Department and Advisor to the Faculty`s Sports Committee. The seminar was supervised by Mr. Ayman Mounir, Director of Student Welfare, and Mr. Sameh Raafat, the Faculty`s Sports Specialist.


     


    Participants in the seminar included Olympic champion Iman El-Gamal, a fencing champion and international referee; Sara Mo`men, a former volleyball player for Al-Ahly Club; and Heba Allah Mohamed, a journalist in the sports section of Al-Masry Al-Youm newspaper.


     


    The participants discussed the importance of practicing sports and its role in promoting mental and physical health and improving individual productivity. Champion Eman El-Gamal affirmed that sports are her entire life, having begun her athletic journey in childhood within a sporting family. She expressed her pride in representing Egypt at the 2008 Beijing and 2012 London Olympics. She explained that she currently works in marketing for an oil company and is a member of the competitions committee for the Egyptian Fencing Federation, in addition to her work as an international referee. She also shared her experience with multiple sclerosis (MS), emphasizing that she faced the disease with determination and perseverance until she regained her athletic activity and normal life. Today, she is a mother of two and is keen to instill in them a love of sports.

    For her part, Sarah Momen spoke about her experience with volleyball, which she began in childhood, and her pride in representing Al-Ahly Club in numerous championships. She noted her pride in being a student at the Faculty of Mass Communication at Cairo University and her subsequent receipt of a scholarship in sports management from Seoul National University in Korea. She confirmed that she currently works as a young leader with the International Olympic Committee and is involved in sports for development initiatives.


     


    Journalist Heba Allah Mohamed emphasized the importance of continuous training in media work and the necessity of acquiring editing, production, and digital content management skills. She expressed her pride in graduating from the Faculty of Mass Communication and participating in Cairo University`s rowing team, which she considers a distinguished experience in her career.

    At the conclusion of the seminar, Professor Dr. Thuraya El-Badawy expressed her delight at organizing the event, affirming the Faculty`s ongoing support for activities that encourage students to participate in sports, given their positive impact on public health and personal development. She also commended Dr. Zahraa Rashad`s efforts in supporting sports activities and her preparation of the professional diploma program in sports media.


     


    Professor Dr. Hanaa Farouk stressed the importance of organizing events that allow students to learn about scholarships and training opportunities in the fields of media and sports, thus contributing to the development of their professional capabilities. Dr. Zahraa Rashad concluded the seminar by thanking the college leadership for their support, noting that her passion for sports media began when Egypt won five medals at the 2004 Athens Olympics, which later prompted her to specialize in this field academically, culminating in the preparation of her doctoral dissertation in sports media.
