Cairo University ranks 39th globally and first in Egypt and Africa in Times Higher Education Interdisciplinary Science Rankings

    Prof Mohamed Sami Abdel-Sadek: The achievement culminates the university’s continuous efforts to enhance its research ecosystem and promote global research publication.
    University President: The Times ranking is the first of its kind to measure universities` contributions and commitment to interdisciplinary sciences. It uses 11 indicators to identify the best in multidisciplinary scientific research.
    Prof Mahmoud El-Said: The university`s ongoing advancements reinforce its role as a leading research power regionally and globally, reflecting a sustained journey of progress.
    Cairo University has continued to achieve international milestones. Prof Mohamed Sami Abdel-Sadek, the university president, announced a new accomplishment: placing the university at the forefront of Egyptian and African universities in the Times Higher Education Interdisciplinary Science Rankings. Released for the first time on 21 November 2024, this ranking uniquely measures universities` contributions to and commitments to interdisciplinary sciences.
    Prof Mohamed Sami Abdel-Sadek added that, according to the Times rankings, Cairo University was ranked 39th globally out of 749 universities from 92 countries and regions.
    In the results, Cairo University achieved the following:
    1st in Egypt among 30 Egyptian universities.
    1st in Africa.
    3rd in the Arab world, surpassing many prestigious global universities.

    Prof Mohamed Sami Abdel-Sadek explained that the primary objective of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings is to identify the world`s top universities in multidisciplinary research through the Times Higher Education Interdisciplinary Science Rankings (ISR). This project was conducted in collaboration with Schmidt Science. He added that 749 universities from 92 countries and regions were ranked. The ranking considers 11 indicators across three main pillars: inputs (funding, 19%), processes (success metrics, facilities, administrative support, and promotion, 16%), and outputs (publications, research quality, and reputation, 65%).
    The university president emphasised that this achievement reflects Cairo University`s ongoing efforts to advance its research ecosystem and enhance the quality of its globally published studies. Over the past years, the university has made significant progress in global rankings by focusing on various scientific fields and publishing in highly regarded international journals. These efforts have solidified its position locally, regionally, and globally as a leader in education and scientific research.
    Prof Mahmoud El-Said, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research, stated that this new achievement demonstrates the university’s steady development. It highlights its role as a leading research powerhouse both regionally and globally. He added that Cairo University strongly emphasises scientific research, considering it a top priority. These results align with the national strategy for higher education and scientific research, aimed at enhancing international publication and research policies to ensure the global competitiveness of Egyptian universities.
