This year`s Cultural forum brought together students and faculty members from over 14 countries across Africa, Asia, and Europe—including Egypt, Palestine, Syria, Sudan, South Sudan, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, Mauritania, Greece, China, and India. Each nation was represented through traditional clothing, authentic cuisine, folk dances, and cultural exhibitions that allowed visitors to experience a mosaic of world cultures.

Students wore national outfits such as Saris, Galabeyas, Abayas, and more, bringing color and authenticity to the occasion. Booths were beautifully decorated with cultural symbols, handmade crafts, and national flags, while many international students shared heartfelt stories from their homelands. Egypt, for example, displayed oud instruments, kheyameya fabrics, and arabesque decorations to showcase its rich artisanal heritage.

Traditional food was a highlight of the forum, with guests tasting homemade dishes and drinks including Egyptian koshary and Sudanese hibiscus tea. Each dish carried not just flavor, but the story of its culture, creating a sensory experience that resonated with attendees.

Several performances brought the event to life: Palestinian Dabke, Egyptian Tanoura, South Sudanese wedding ceremonies, Chinese Wushu, and Indian classical dances drew large crowds and enthusiastic applause. The entire faculty courtyard became a stage for intercultural celebration.

“We were ready to celebrate the fusion of our newest cultures, and this turned out to be an ancient find.”, Dr Bassant Mourad, Forum organizer said.

This was the unexpected twist that took the forum from a cultural celebration to a moment of historical importance. During the setup of the event, students and faculty unexpectedly stumbled upon ancient relics—pottery shards and inscriptions—suggesting that a previously undocumented civilization once existed in the area. The discovery prompted immediate interest from the university’s archaeological team, who have since begun further investigations.

The courage of that serendipitous discovery has enriched the forum with a historical depth that shows us how ancient is the cultural heritage Cairo University roots from. More excavations are in the offing to ascertain the dimensions of the archaeological site.

More than just a festival, the Cultural Forum reflects Cairo University’s dedication to diversity, inclusion, and international awareness. It continues to be a space for celebrating identity, encouraging dialogue, and building bridges between cultures—values that shape the student experience both in and beyond the classroom.
