Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, the Big Bang spinoff centered on Kevin Sussman`s Stuart Bloom, will be arriving on HBO Max in July, the show`s cast announced during a Sunday, April 26 panel at CCXP Mexico City.

The streamer also unveiled a handful of first-look images from the show, featuring costars Lauren Lapkus (Denise), Brian Posehn (Burt) and John Ross Bowie (Barry). The series will follow the comic book store owner as he`s "tasked with restoring reality after he breaks a device built by Sheldon and Leonard, accidentally bringing about a multiverse Armageddon," teases a logline.

"Stuart is aided in this quest by his girlfriend Denise, geologist friend Bert, and quantum physicist/all-around pain in the ass Barry Kripke. Along the way, they meet alternate-universe versions of characters we’ve come to know and love from The Big Bang Theory," the description continues. "As the title implies, things don’t go well."

In the photos, Stuart and crew can be seen hanging out at his store, the Comic Center of Pasadena, carrying around a giant device and somehow in an apparent war zone.

The cast revealed during CCXP Mexico City that the series will also feature original music from Danny Elfman. Stuart Fails to Save the Universe comes from Chuck Lorre Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television. Its created, written and executive produced by Chuck Lorre, Zak Penn and Bill Prady.

“It was fun because Lauren Lapkus and Brian Posehn and John Ross Bowie fill out the cast and they were all supporting players on the Big Bang Theory,” Lorre added. “Now they`re the leads, and it`s just kind of cool.”

HBO Max announced that it picked the show up in July 2025. The Big Bang Theory ran for 12 seasons from 2007 to 2019. During the show`s run, fans were introduced to Stuart and Barry in season 2, while Denise and Bert joined the series later.

Stuart will mark the fourth series in the Big Bang universe, also following Young Sheldon and Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage.

Prady previously shared in a statement that writing alongside Lorre and Penn had "been damn fun.”

“I’m certain that joy will come through the screen,” he said. “Putting characters we loved from The Big Bang Theory into a complex science-fiction story with the kind of mythology that those characters love while maintaining the comedic elements is incredibly satisfying.” 

All 12 seasons of The Big Bang Theory are streaming on HBO Max.
