In an episode of the popular podcast hosted by Anas Boukhash, during a wide-ranging conversation with Sir Magdi Yacoub, nothing resonated with viewers or saved  in their memories more than that expressive sentence and that shocking statement from the great Professor Dr Magdi Yacoub, who spoke about “broken heart syndrome”

This was when Anas Boukhash asked him, “Do sociable people live longer?” Sir Magdi Yacoub replied without hesitation that he believes this to be true, and that those who are happy in their work and kind to others live longer, and that there are studies proving this—the exact opposite of sadness, as sadness “directly” affects the heart and can cause a “heart attack” at any moment.

And the King of Hearts explained in his own way how the

“broken heart” syndrome is not just a metaphor but has a scientific explanation and is a medical fact; intense sadness releases chemical toxins that attack the heart muscle and weaken its function, and consequently, it may suddenly stop.

Surprisingly, Sir Magdy Yacoub stated that due to this syndrome, the shape and features of the heart change; he described it as swelling from the bottom and taking on an abnormal shape, as if it were a heart attack. He concluded his description of the syndrome by saying: “You may die from sadness, but happiness prolongs life, and this is a very important fact that everyone must know.”

The King of Hearts concluded his response to this question by stating that the search for the sources of happiness and inner peace is not a luxury but a necessity for living in a healthy body, saying: “It is important to know what satisfies and delights you, to pursue it, and to avoid sadness if you wish to live longer; therefore, I agree that a sociable person may live longer.” He summarised this in the word “Humanity,” and the interview concluded.
