    Prof. Hanan Gunaid: Today`s symposium consolidates the role of student projects in rejecting socially unacceptable phenomena


    Prof. Nermin Al-Azraq: Activating the Code of Conduct is the ideal solution to eliminate the phenomenon of sports fanaticism


    Prof. Dalia Muhammad Abdullah: Media values of objectivity and constructive criticism eliminate the phenomenon and limit its spread


     


    Under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Hanan Gunaid, Faculty Dean and Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, the Department of Public Relations and the English Section organized a symposium this afternoon, Sunday, March 19, on the role of the media in confronting intolerance, rejecting violence and supporting national belonging, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Dalia Muhammad Abdullah, Head of Department of Public Relations and Advertising, and Prof. Dr. Nermin Azraq, Head of the English Section.


    The symposium included a presentation of a graduation project on "Rejection of Sports Fanaticism". The project is supervised by Dr. Iman Osama, Assistant Professor, Department of Public Relations and Advertising, and co-supervised by Ms. Rehab Abdel Moez, Assistant Lecturer, Department of Public Relations and Advertising.


    The symposium was attended by Mr. Muhammad Al-Qusi, the journalist and sports analyst, and Mr. Ahmed Al-Khudari, the journalist and sports analyst, and Mr. Ahmed Abdel Basset, journalist and sports critic, and Mr. Islam El-Tahawy, media official at UNESCO.

    The symposium was covered by the news website of the English section under the supervision of Dr. Hany Mohamed Ali.
    Dr. Hanan Gunaid, praised for the role of graduation projects in dealing with important societal issues, such as spreading tolerance, rejecting violence and intolerance, supporting belonging to Egypt, and standing against those who seek to undermine our beloved country.
    Dr. Dalia Abdullah, also dealt with the concept of fanaticism, stressed the importance of starting with oneself, accepting constructive criticism, applying reason, distancing oneself from emotions, rejecting any violence and any intolerance to an opinion, idea, subject, team, or player, and to address any issue impartially and objectively.
    As recommended by Dr. Nermin Al-Azraq, during her speech, she stressed the importance of activating a code of conduct for media practices, especially in the field of sports media, to eliminate the phenomenon of sports fanaticism.

    Mr Muhammad Al-Qusi, a sports analyst, also expressed the importance of media practice on the part of media college graduates who have been well prepared to practice the profession in a correct scientific and professional manner, which may contribute to shaping awareness of important societal issues, including renouncing violence and spreading a culture of tolerance among the various sects of society.
    Mr. Ahmed Al-Khodary explained the importance of social upbringing and spreading the spirit of tolerance in children from their inception, especially since the family and the school have a great role in this regard.
    In turn, Mr. Ahmed Abdel Baset, journalist and sports critic, spoke about the need for more seminars to educate students about sportsmanship and acceptance of the other, and that we all join hands to support the national team and the Egyptian champions in various sports.
    As shown by A. Islam El-Tahawy, media official at UNESCO, the most important results of his master`s thesis, which dealt with the phenomenon of sports fanaticism, which indicated that the statements of some officials may be a reason for fueling sports fanaticism, noting that social media has a major role in the growth of this phenomenon.
    At the end of the event, the symposium platform recommended many recommendations, the most important of which is paying attention to various sports, not focusing on a specific game, spreading tolerance and non-intolerance in the socialization of children, as well as harshening penalties and activating legislative aspects against fanatics.

    The symposium was organized by students of the graduation project under the name of Raya and Sakina to renounce sports fanaticism, and they are (Abdul Hadi Adel Ghorab, Abdul Rahman Ibrahim Jundi, Habiba Magdy Hussein, Amani Hamdi Abdel Hamid Mahmoud, Maryam Mohsen Ahmed Ahmed, Esraa Muhammad Mahmoud Muhammad, Manar Ali Abdul Rahman Muhammad, Marilyn Magdy Hanes, Darren Samir Ahmed Abdullah, Nada Saber Abdel Hakim, Hind Karam Ahmed, Maryam Ahmed Mohamed Khorshid, Rawan Salem Ayad Selim, Norsin Nour, Sarah Talaat Abdel Hamid Abdel Hadi, Asmaa Reda Mahmoud Abdo, Alaa Mohamed Suleiman, Nagham Khaled Gharib, Nidal Sameh Mahrous, Farah Ahmed Jumaa Kassab, Khaled Mahmoud Abdel Qader.
