EMCCU TODAY interviewed Mr. Muhammad Al-Qusi, sports analyst and journalist:

    .

From your point of view, what are the reasons for fanaticism?

Fanaticism has a lot of reasons first: not accepting others` opinions. Second: dictatorship of opinion. Third: the feeling that anyone hasn’t the right to say his opinion. And finally the ignorance and media.

What is the role of the media for sports fanaticism?

Media plays an important role of flaming, and the unqualified media presenters are the main reason of fanaticism due to their biased statements to some officials, in my opinion, that media presenters who played an important role recently because they made fanaticism in the football society in huge rates in the Egyptian streets.
Sports Fanaticism is very bad and a disastrous phenomenon we all hope it passes away from society.”
    .

Do you describe yourself as a sports fanatic at some point?

No one can describe himself as a sports fanatic. As a journalist, and a mass media graduate, there are some basics we practiced on like how much we love the place, we have the ability to control our feelings. At least, love your sporting team but don’t show hatred to others or make fun of them and don’t wish them loss. Fanaticism is viral and maybe someone is fanatic and has no idea about it is because of the people around him who see these outer characteristics.

What is your advice for youth about sport fanaticism?

The youth must have the sportsmanship and accept the others and the criticism they get, and love their team but not with hatred and wish for loss for another teams. In my opinion these points solve fanaticism by a large percentage.
